It is a great honor and pleasure to be here to share my story and ideas with you guys.
I guess everybody here must know that I was fined by the American custom officer, because there was something wrong with the date of my birthday.
it was when the deadline approached that I began to fill DS-160 form.
And I did this thing really in a hurry. But I am not very worry about it, because I thought my parents and my teacher will check the information for me. However, they do not find the error of my visa ,including the Chinese costume officers .
it was not until the American custom officer brought me to a special room did I realize that I made a mistake about the birthday date. When I pay for the fine, teacher su, that is Steven, told me something really important that I may keep that in mind for the rest of my life. He said no one is responsible for us all the time.so we should be responsible for what we do, and everything you did before may influence the later things. Although the price for this mistake is high , but I think it is worthwhile , cause this punishment taught me a very important lesson. When you do decide to do something , you need to devote enough time and energy, and spare no efforts to work with your heart and soul for it. As far as I am concerned, doing nothing is better than doing things by half or doing things carelessly.
And next I want to talk about my feelings about the American classes . Let me take the baseball class as an example.I believe everyone love the baseball class taught by pete. He draw us a picture of the baseball field so we could see and understand the rules better. And he let us all join the class discussion to stimulate the our motivation, not like the Chinese teacher just keep reading the PPT all the time, which made us fall asleep very quickly.
The best thing of this class is that it made me begin to think. I mean thinking about the thing I have never noticed before. I cannot imagine that we need an American person to tell us why the ping-pang is our national game but never think about it before. We take established facts for granted and receive it with no hesitation, without thinking about why and how. We Chinese people care more about what it is more than why it is and how it is. We get used to Traditional cramming method of teaching, we have not gained the habit to think critically and that may be the reason why we cannot even ask a question after others’ sunrise. Better still, we can play baseball just after we learn about this game, which perfectly combines theory and practice, and it really helps us a lot to get a better understanding not only about the rules of the game but also the meaning and spirit of this interesting game. I believe at the very beginning, we hesitate to join this game.cause we got a little tired. But when we push ourselves to this game, we found that if we don’t join this game and enjoy this game, we will be regretted for the rest of our lives.
The point is that we are supposed to try new things whether you are ready for it or not, just go for it, or you will never know your potential and the beautiful view ahead

It is true that there are so many new things that we may never have a chance to try,but we should not be afraid of the infinite truth, because every time you makes progress you can gain some joy and pleasure. Or I would like to speak in Chinese 怕什么真理无穷,进一寸有一寸的欢喜。

The Chinese proverb makes me think a lot. Sometimes people are too overcritical to be perfect, which exhausts us a lot. Actually, we should focus on any progress we made, that's the meaning about grown-up.
ReplyDeleteYour experiences are valuable because you can learn from the experiences. But some your ideals I think are wrong. You said Chinese teacher just keep reading the PPT all the time,I don't agree with you.Not all Chinese teacher just read the PPT all the time.At least my some teacher can share the latest reasearch with us.Chinese education develops very much,I think we should encourage our teachers rather than critical them.

ReplyDeleteDaisy, I can't agree with you more and I really love the last sentence you give in the end of your sunrise! I'm so lucky to have you as my roommate, we talk a lot in dorm and I've got lots of inspirations during those conversations. As you've mentioned, we did learn a lot in Peter's baseball class, not only about how to play baseball, but more importantly, we learn to polish our ability of thinking and analyzing to figure out the origins and reasons behind some phenomenons, rather than just taking things for granted. The classes of China nowadays, which we guys are familiar with, are in great lack for that spirit. For example,I major in editing and publishing science, and most of my class are pretty dull and we can get a good grade only by reciting the text books right before the final exams. Now I've learned, that knowing is not enough, everything has its backgrounds and reasons, we can't really understand it and turn it into our own knowledge until we give our own deep thinking to it.and as you said at the end of this blog, "we should not be afraid of the infinite truth, because every time you makes progress you can gain some joy and pleasure!"
ReplyDeleteI sat on the first line and I think a lot.All of people want to be more perfect but some just think ,or some think that others will do for them.Only we take one step on ourselves,we will have the chance to make it.CONGRATULATIONS for the burn of F4!HOPE that we will make the dream come true all of us in the future!
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet.Little gongju.
DeleteThe last sentence is really amazing.I will remember that and often think of it to encourage me myself to have a try and make progress.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I think that sentence is much better than the one I learned in China: 不怕慢,只怕站.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a bit scary to deal with authorities about your passport and I'm glad you learned your lesson early. I will share with you that I accidentally overstayed once in China and had to spend 2 days in Chinese police stations, apologizing and paying fines. I then had to reapply for a new visa, which took a lot of time and money and I worries a lot about it. From the experience I realized that you must be VERY careful with your international travels and that traveling is a privilege, not a right. I wish we didn't have to use passports to visit other countries...but until that day comes we need to follow the rules so we can have international adventures!
