Just wanted to write a few words to welcome you to Columbus and the Wuhan To Ohio Summer Program! Last night was such a fun time and I look forward to spending more time with you the next couple of weeks.
I'll tell you two things about me:
1. I like being active, such as running
2. I like China
Running + China = Awesome
Yes, that is me running on the Great Wall of China a few years ago. Some of you might already know that I lived in China for 7 years: 4 in Wuhan and 3 in Shanghai. I taught English and studied Chinese at WuDa starting in 2006. I then taught TOEFL and IELTS at Wuhan New Oriental, and then moved to Shanghai in 2010 to begin helping American companies do business in China. Just last week I celebrated my 10-year anniversary in China (July 5, 2005) and I find no better way to celebrate than with some old and new friends from Wuhan University and Ohio State University!
China 2005!
Columbus is a great environment for you to live and work and study. The Chinese students here often call the area 哥村 because isn't like a Chinese city like Wuhan but more village-like. But it is great in all ways and I'm happy to be back here living and working since I left China in early 2013. Feel free to ask me any questions about it or Ohio as I'm a native Ohioan, growing up 2 hours north of Columbus in Huron, Ohio.
I really enjoyed talking with Henry, Winnie, Joan, Catherine and Snow last night at dinner. I was really impressed with your great, positive attitudes and willingness to talk. Can't wait to meet more of you soon!

ReplyDeletehi,Eric! i also had a part-time job in Wuhan new oriental, maybe that's one of the reasons U look so familliar to me
ReplyDeletePerhaps that is! What classes did you teach? I was there 2008-early 2010.
DeleteNice to meet to chat with you. I think my behavior was not so polite during these days. And I am grateful for you to point out my rudeness in the zoo.Hope to improve myself both in language and politeness.
ReplyDeleteYou were fine Joan - no need to apologize and you were not "rude". You were just not accustomed to how things are shared in US spaces. It's much different than in China and I wanted to make sure you understood it. I am happy to see you eager and curious about all things. This is part of exploring new cultures and learning more about yourself.
DeleteHi,Eric!I heard that you had worked for Shanghai shenhua which is a famous football club.Have you ever seen Didier Drogba?
ReplyDeleteHa, are they famous! They never win, even with all that money! I actually didn't work for them but was a supporter. I went to a number of games but never saw Drogba play...he was always being lazy and unhappy with Shenhua management! Shenhua fans deserve better! :)
