The First Week

This is the first time for me to go out side of  China . I`m really interesting in that the live of American people and the school in USA.The trip help me to know somethings about that.
I have a good time in the  first   week .I  have done many things which I had not done before.like baseball, rock climbing ,to do talk with  foreigners , eating the really American food and so on .
what impress me most is  that cars will wait for pedestrian. In Wuhan divers  often conflict with pedestrian
or others divers .In my opinion the reason of  traffic jam in Wuhan is that divers  often broken the rule and when the  little rub happens they will conflict for a long time on the road so the traffic jam happens.Although in must time the traffic jam  cause by there are  too many cars but if the divers and pedestrians don't broken the rule and respect each others some accidents will not happen and the traffic will be more fluent.
The Chinese food in American also impress me .Although these dishes are not as good as in China,But some of them are really good .
On the whole ,the first week in American is very good  .I really expect the next week in USA.

  1. hi patrick...i am glad you had a chance to come outside of china and see how other cities function. you're right--usually, the cars wait for the pedestrians...but not always! oftentimes, the cars completely disregard the pedestrians and it is very unsafe. so, please be careful: the cars will not always wait for you!

  2. Great observations and experiences Patrick.

One thought I want to share with you...aren't you and your classmates the foreigners? Don't you mean locals? Americans? Ohioans? I have always been fascinated with overseas Chinese using 外国人 (waiguoren) to describe people, when in fact they are the visitors/guests! It shows a little bit how language creates in-groups and out-groups.

  3. There are really lots of differences between Chinese culture and English culture. And I think that's where trying new things show its importance. All the knowledges about America are learned from textbooks and media. Those ideas are not mine. We just take in what others have digested, which will be kind of misleading and disable us to explore the true things with our own eyes. Only by trying new things and putting our own on the spot, can we get close to the true meaning of a culture. With those experience, we can compare different cultures and have deeper thoughts about them. If you prevent yourself from trying new things, you will never make it to the core of a culture and you will always live in the shadow of other people's thoughts. Isn't it terrible? So just try new things now!

    1. Well said Xiaoyu - media gives us a good reference (and some partial truths) but we have to experience things firsthand to find which parts are true and which parts have been embellished. It's not terrible...there's just so much stuff to know about life and the world. We can't know it all!
