THIS POST IS ABOUT NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES
Three things here that we need to set up for Susy to help you, and this is Mike writing and Susy and I are together writing this.
She can TRY to do three things for you, but we have to know if you are truly interested:
1) Observe an undergraduate class in your field of study at Ohio State.
2) Meet a department member or a student in your field of study.
3) Draft a personal statement for graduate school, or at least make progress toward doing one.
So, if you are serious, in the Comments section of this post, write a short response and include these topics:
--Put your Gmail address, so Susy can contact you personally.
--Tell us if you are interested in observing a class.
--Tell us if you are interested in meeting a department member or student.
--Tell us if you want to commit to putting in effort to draft your personal statement.
Keep this in mind. You do not have to do ANY of these things. You can do one. You can do three. It is up to you, but if you are interested, we will do our best to help you. We cannot promise that all these things will be arranged perfectly, because there are so few students and classes here in the summer, but we will do our best.

ReplyDeleteHello Hugh. I'm waiting for a callback from Fisher College. They are often happy to take students on a tour of the college and talk to students about the different areas of study -- such as Accounting, and how to apply (letters and transcripts). Would you be interested in that? I hope I will have a reply and some news by tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteHi Frank, I've left messages with the Computer Science Department requesting a visit to a class. I haven't heard anything back yet -- faculty often do not respond to requests over the weekend. I will let you know re classes as soon as I receive a response.

Hi Phoebe! The Department of East Asian Languages will be happy to welcome students to observe a Chinese or Japanese class. I'll give you more information this afternoon. I'm sure you will enjoy the class!
DeleteHi Phoebe, The East Asian Languages Department would welcome you to visit a Chinese class on Thursday at 1:50. (There is only one Japanese class this summer -- and it is in the morning and conflicts with other commitments of the Wuhan0to-Ohio Program schedule.) Blueness mentioned that he might like to observe a language class, and Snow might like to observe the class as well. I think you would find it very interesting to see how foreign languages are taught in the US. Could you let me know if you would like to come to that class. It is only 50 minutes long.? If you see Snow or Blueness, could you ask them if they would like to join you for that 1:50 class?? I will meet you and walk with you to the classroom on Thursday afternoon if you like. I look forward to talking with you again.

DeleteOhio State doesn't have a department of Energy Chemistry. The Chemistry department is happy to have visitors to observe Chem classes, if you'd like to do that. They are also happy to talk with you abt graduate school. We don't have a department called Power and Energy. Is it a kind of Engineering or Physics? Let me know how you would like me to pursue this. I do know professors in Physics and EE, if that would help.

I would appreciate it if I can be arranged to attend a class about Remote Sensing or whatever class is related to my major Geographical Condition Monitoring.
