Today I got the chance to go rock climbing with some team mates and Eric which extends my views of myself.
Chatting and laughing with each other,we arrived at the center easily. And Eric told us some matters needing attention in the van. He said that the first thing is don't be nervous and other things to help us climbing.
After everybody being equipped,we came to the climbing wall with lots of colorful grotesque cubes on it. At the first sight of it,the only thing I thought of was the wall was too high to climb. What if I fell in half way or I became scared in the climbing? So I got a little scared in front of the wall.
Not surprisingly, there were always brave ones appealed. Eric firstly climbed to the top to show us how to do it by using our legs and relaxing our arms. It seemed quite easy for him to do it. Then some others tried and succeeded.
At last I decided to have a try. At the beginning, it was not so difficult and I can do it with ease. Then just as I approximately getting closer and closer to the top,I found no place to hold which meant that I could not insist for long. I kept staying there and felt that my arms were kind of sore. A sense of fear attack me again. But I don't want to quit as I have done most of the work and it was so close to the top. Then I decided to keep going. With unremitting efforts,I finally touched the top.
As there are two different wall which we can choose, many guys chose to try another one to challenge themselves. I cheered them on and took pictures for them. However,I never thought that I myself can do it again. Whereas, nearly everyone has tried twice and made it. Then they encouraged me to do so. A little afraid as I was,I chose to challenge myself because it was a hard-won chance. Unexpectedly, not only did I make it to the top, I also did quite excellently!I seemed to get the hang of some rockcraft and climbed quickly and easily which really astonished me, for I always think that I am not so healthy and rarely do well in sports. But I did feel proud and happy when they marveled at my appearance and praised me.
I remember the famous words in Forrest Gump, life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. We should keep curious and brave, keep trying new things. Whether we may succeed or fail is not important, it is what we experience during the process that matters most.
Wow Joan! Great post! I'm glad you trusted your instincts and climbed again...and you were by far the fastest then.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many opportunities and sports for you to try that you would challenge yourself with and excel on. It's common to compare us to our classmates when we are young, but you'll see in your 20's that you can discover other activities that you love to do and you are good at - meaning you'll enjoy them even more. Hope to see you at the rock gym in Wuhan!
Thanks for your company all these days. And choosing to join the summer camp might be one of my greatest decision. Not only did I meet a group of great people as you,I also found more possibilities of myself. Hope to meet you in Wuhan.
