The Thoughtful Trip to Columbus Zoo

Last Saturday, we went to the Columbus zoo. It's a large, beautiful place, including lots of animal, especially some endangered species. But except for the wonderment to the number and type of animal, there are two things that made me think a lot.

The first it about the way it puts animals. I've been many Chinese zoos before, and all of them put animals into small cages, even some giant beasties such as lion or elephant. They have no place to move, and what they could do is sit or lay on the ground, watch the crowd around, lost the meaning of wild life. However, here in Columbus zoo, all kinds of animals have their place as a real habitat or reserve. They can live their original life, but still be protected very well. So I think, it's a better way to protect endangered animals, giving them the privilege to live like their ancestors, rather than taking away their way of life.
The habitat for animals
The second thing is about the relationship between human and animal. I saw a slogan somewhere in the zoo occasionally. It asked people what could do if all the beasts were gone. It said that people would die too because of loneliness and spirit. It impressed me most and I can't agree more. This world is made by various species, and they all connection to each other, for checked and balanced. If  people kills animals without consideration, then the imminent danger for animals will soon influence our lives, so we may also encounter huge risks just as what we have done to them. Therefore, that's the reason why we should protect endangered animals and build up the zoo. It is far more than a pleasure ground for children. Actually it's a educational base that teaches people what needs to pay more attention to and what we should do to save the situation. It's not only for children, but also for adults. so I think it's meaningful to visit the zoo.
The proverb in the zoo
Thanks for Mike and Pete and Eric to take us to the zoo, which will be deep in mind, and remind me the significant to protect endangered species.

  1. I think it is true--animals are important for many things including having a connection to other living things. Our cats are so important to me and Bob--they have become part of our family! What would we do without animals?!

  2. You're welcome Winnie! I'm always happy to take people (including myself) to the Columbus Zoo. Such a great place. Learning about the other animals that inhabit the earth with us is a gift and hopefully affects all of us. We all truly share the planet and it's important for us to take time every now and again to think about that idea.
